Outcomes
What changes when one partner owns your payment outcomes.
These payment outcomes cover four problems: too many payment vendors, fraud, chargebacks, and declined payments. Each one shows the numbers before pmtbox and after.
01One System
A multi-channel retailer runs every sale on one system
An outdoor apparel retailer replaced four vendors with one pmtbox system for processing, fraud, and disputes, and closed its books 4 days faster.
- Industry
- Outdoor apparel retail
- Size
- 22 stores, $5.5M monthly card volume across channels
- Channels
- Retail stores, web store, mobile app, seasonal flash sales
- Before pmtbox
- 4 vendors: a processor, a fraud tool, a chargeback manager, and a contingency firm
- Vendors
- Days to close the month
- Disputes the team works by hand each month
- Hours a month reconciling reports
The problem
The retailer ran processing through one vendor, fraud through a second tool, and disputes through a chargeback manager, and paid a contingency firm a share of every chargeback recovered. Each one had its own report, fee schedule, and rules. Finance stitched four exports together in a spreadsheet every month. A customer who bought in a store and then online looked like two strangers. When a flash sale spiked traffic, the processor throttled and nobody saw it until orders dropped.
What pmtbox did
- Moved stores, web, and app onto one pmtbox system, with processing, fraud, and disputes in the same place.
- Took fraud and chargebacks off the team’s plate across every channel: pmtbox made the fraud decisions and represented disputes automatically, with no documents for the team to collect.
- Gave the team one view of sales, approval rate, fraud blocked, and fees by channel, in real time.
- Recognized returning customers across channels, so a known store shopper doesn’t get flagged online.
- Handled flash sale spikes on the same system as everyday traffic.
02Fraud Ownership
An action sports brand stops card testing and approves more good orders
An action sports apparel brand blocked 100% of fraud attempts during product drops and approved 4.1 more points of good orders.
- Industry
- Action sports apparel, direct to consumer
- Size
- $1.8M monthly online volume, spiking to 6x on drop days
- Channels
- Web store and mobile app
- Before pmtbox
- A processor, a separate rules-based fraud tool, and a manual review queue
- Approval rate on good orders
- Fraud attempts blocked before authorization
- Orders in manual review per drop
- Fraud chargebacks absorbed by the brand
The problem
Every limited drop drew card-testing bots and resellers on proxy IPs. The fraud tool’s static rules blocked in bulk, so real customers got declined too. Two analysts spent drop weekends clearing a review queue of 1,200 orders. Fraud still got through, and each miss came back as a chargeback weeks later.
What pmtbox did
- Checked every order before authorization against how good customers buy, using billing and shipping match, IP type, device history, checkout velocity, email age, and order value.
- Blocked card-testing bursts before they reached the processor, so the brand paid no fee on those attempts.
- Sent borderline orders to 3D Secure (3DS) authentication instead of declining them.
- Covered fraud losses on every transaction pmtbox approved.
03Chargeback Automation
A restaurant franchise group optimizes every dispute and cuts chargebacks
A quick-service franchise group now optimizes 100% of its disputes, up from 22%, and chargebacks reaching its account fell from 310 a month to 34. Its franchise owners stopped writing dispute responses.
- Industry
- Quick-service restaurants, franchise group
- Size
- 48 locations, $2.6M monthly online ordering volume
- Channels
- Online ordering, delivery app orders, catering
- Before pmtbox
- Chargebacks landed at each location; owners answered them by hand or let them lapse
- Chargebacks reaching the account per month
- Disputes optimized
- Win rate on disputes fought
- Monthly chargeback losses
The problem
Online and catering orders drew "order not received" and stolen-card disputes. Each location got its own notices, and most owners let them expire. The group lost the full order value plus a fee on every one. No one could see the total across 48 locations.
What pmtbox did
- Blocked fraudulent orders before authorization, so they never turned into chargebacks.
- Resolved disputes early through pre-dispute alerts, before they became chargebacks.
- Pulled order, delivery, and customer evidence and filed every response centrally.
- Covered fraud chargebacks on transactions pmtbox approved.
- Rolled every location’s disputes into one queue the group can see.
04Conversion Optimization
A home goods brand turns more payments into approved sales
A home goods ecommerce brand turned 86% of payment page visits into approved orders, up from 78%, and added $250K in monthly sales from the same traffic.
- Industry
- Home goods, direct-to-consumer ecommerce
- Size
- $2.4M monthly online sales
- Channels
- Web store, desktop and mobile
- Before pmtbox
- A processor and gateway reporting approval totals only, with no decline reasons and no view of the payment page
- Payment page visits ending in an approved order
- Shoppers leaving the payment page without paying
- Approval rate on submitted payments
- Monthly online sales
The problem
Of every 100 shoppers who reached the payment page, 86 submitted a payment and 78 ended in an approved order. Eight good orders in every hundred ended at a decline, and five of those were soft declines a retry would have saved. The processor and gateway reported approval totals with no decline reasons, so the team had no way to see which cards, devices, or networks failed most.
What pmtbox did
- Tracked every payment attempt and every decline reason.
- Retried soft declines on a different network, so a temporary issue no longer cost the sale.
- Turned on wallet payments on mobile, so shoppers paid in fewer steps.
- Gave the team a view of attempts and decline reasons by card type and device.
